SHAPING PUBLIC PLACES: HUB'S MULTIFUNCTION POLES IN PARRAMATTA POOL'S AWARD-WINNING DESIGN

Shaping public spaces: HUB's multifunction poles in Parramatta pool's award-winning design

The Parramatta Aquatic and Leisure Centre is a major architectural and landscape achievement for New South Wales, standing out not only for its leading-edge aquatic facilities but also for the integration of sustainable landscape design and lighting solutions. HUB proudly supported this project by supplying multifunctional poles that play a key role in enhancing both the aesthetic appeal and practical functionality of the space.

The landscape design of the project, spearheaded by McGregor Coxall, focuses on blending natural and built environments, creating a fluid transition between the aquatic centre and its surrounding parklands. Native plant species have been selected to reduce water usage and promote biodiversity, while the layout encourages outdoor leisure and recreation beyond the pool itself. Pathways meander through green spaces, offering visitors serene spots for relaxation while connecting them to the facility's different functional zones.

Lighting plays a critical role in ensuring the site remains accessible and safe for visitors at all hours. HUB's multifunction poles, which are strategically positioned throughout the Centre’s internal landscape, offer more than just illumination. These poles are designed to support a range of smart technologies and accessories, including environmental sensors, and public Wi-Fi, ensuring that the space remains secure and connected. The lighting design also emphasises sustainability, utilising energy-efficient LED systems that reduce the environmental footprint while providing optimal visibility.

By carefully considering how landscape and light pole design work in tandem, the project team has succeeded in creating a welcoming, functional, and environmentally responsive public space.

HUB is delighted to have contributed just a small part to this big project, ensuring innovative and integrated landscape infrastructure enhances both the usability and sustainability of the Parramatta Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
